Past, Present and Future

Prestonwood Baptist Church began on February 6, 1977, as a mission of Northway Baptist Church and a dream of the Dallas Baptist Association—which saw the tremendous need for a vibrant church in North Dallas. Led by Pastor Bill Weber, the young church’s beginnings were modest, with services held at a community center for the first two years. In 1979, Prestonwood moved to its new home at Arapaho and Hillcrest roads in North Dallas.

Prestonwood continued to grow and in 1989, the church experienced its most defining moment when Dr. Jack Graham accepted the call as pastor. With a burgeoning congregation and landlocked location in North Dallas, Pastor Graham and church leaders prayed about the next step for Prestonwood. God led the church to 140 acres in Plano, and in May 1999, Prestonwood held its first service at its new home at 6801 W. Park Blvd. God’s hand has continued to be on this church as members have witnessed changed lives, strengthened families and a greater reach in the community, nation and the world with the love of Christ.

Under Pastor Graham’s bold and visionary leadership, Prestonwood is thriving with more than 30,000 members and three campuses: the Plano Campus, the North Campus in Prosper and the U.S. Highway 380 Corridor, and the Dallas Campus on Hillcrest Road just south of Interstate 635.

In March 2006, after months of prayer with church leaders, Pastor Graham shared with the congregation a vision for expansion that included plans for a second location. The North Campus grew out of the spirit-led determination to move forward to the glory of God by reaching North Texas. After meeting in home groups and then in the Prosper High School gym for a couple of years, in October 2008, our church family celebrated the dedication of the new facility on 127 acres on Prosper Trail, just east of the Dallas North Tollway. Now, more than 2,000 people call our North Campus “home,” and more and more first-time guests continue to pour in for services each Sunday.

Five years later, God continued to further the vision for Prestonwood through a third campus—the Dallas Campus. Pastor Graham and church leadership shared with the congregation a God-given opportunity to purchase the property formerly belonging to Hillcrest Church—just a few miles from the community center where Prestonwood was birthed 34 years ago. The church family unanimously affirmed the purchase and the new beginning in this familiar community. More than 2,300 attended the first Worship Service at the Dallas Campus on Aug. 21, 2011.

Go Beyond

The vision God has always had for Prestonwood reaches much deeper than the local community, however. Throughout the year, Prestonwood members are ministering in San Antonio, Boston and New Orleans; and they’re in the Amazon, Romania and Africa. And through PowerPoint Ministries, countless people throughout the world can hear the life-transforming truth of God’s Word via television, radio and the Internet.

“The thing that drives our church is still and forever will be the Great Commission,” Pastor Graham has often said. “For us, it is all about the Message—proclaiming it from the pulpit and getting it to as many people as possible.”
