Discipleship through Men of Honor

Through the years I have firmly believed that if revival is to come to the church, and if the Good News of Jesus Christ is to spread to the nations, it will be because men became godly and began living their faith with passion and integrity.—Pastor Jack Graham in A Man of God

Our Men’s Ministry desires to do just that—help build Men of Honor, men who will, first of all, lead their families the way God intends.

Hundreds of Prestonwood men invite friends each week for Friday Morning Men’s Bible Study in the Student Ministry Building at the Plano campus and at The Warehouse for those who attend Prestonwood North. Each week lives are being touched and changed by the Gospel message. The Men’s Ministry also continues to make a difference in the lives of these men through more than 20 Discipleship Classes.

“Reproducing your life into another is critical in fulfilling the Great Commission,” said David Shivers, Minister of Men & Evangelism. “We are in a season in the life of Prestonwood where we must be intentional and deliberate in the disciple-making process; and the end result will be greater than we could imagine.”

At Prestonwood North, Campus Pastor Marc Rylander said the Men of Honor gathering each Friday morning is not only a “gathering point” for the more than 130 men, but also a “launching point.”

“We are discipling men who have a passionate desire to grow in Christ, and out of that discipleship, groups are created where the true journey of faith can be developed,” said Marc, who is the primary teacher on Fridays. “All aspects of life are sharpened and relationships are birthed that will not only encourage and inspire, but will ultimately produce other discipleship relationships.”

Earlier this fall, nearly 100 men from both campuses attended a discipleship seminar featuring Dr. John Tolson, author of The Four Priorities (our church discipleship curriculum) and chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys. Dr. Tolson specializes in outreach and discipleship training and strives to help churches all over the nation become more intentional about making disciples.

“Dr. Tolson’s seminar was timely, applicable and challenging,” said one member, Kurt Stratton. “I’m already thinking of those I can disciple in our class.”

Steve Blankenship said he has been working through this Four Priorities group with David Shivers since January. “It’s great to have Dr. Tolson get us fired up for the impact this ministry is going to have,” he said.
