James Layfield
Trombone/Low Brass
James Layfield began playing trombone at the age of 11. His father, a trombonist, inspired James to grow musically throughout school. Joining up with his church orchestra at the start of high school allowed him to worship the Lord through his God given talents.
During the summers of 1999 and 2001, James went with the Musicians on Mission to Europe and Brazil. While there he ministered to people through worship and prayer.
James received his Bachelor's in music theory from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2006. He currently attends Southern Methodist University where he studies under John Kitzman, principal trombonist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He plans to graduate in May 2009 with a degree in Trombone Performance.
During the year James teaches over 20 students in the Arlington Independent School District, giving master classes in all areas of Low Brass.
