Sara Scurry
Bassoon
Sara Scurry of Dallas currently teaches a private studio of 35 bassoon students and freelances in the area. Before returning to Dallas in fall 2006, Sara served as principal bassoonist in the Shreveport Symphony for six months and principal bassoonist of the Mexico State Symphony Orchestra for two years.
While in Mexico, Sara performed the Mozart Sinfonie Concertante with the orchestra and also toured France, China and Spain. She recorded the CD Equilibrio with the band Jeltro in Mexico City.
Sara graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy, attended the Julliard School and earned a bachelor of music degree at Oberlin Conservatory, where she was a student of George Sakakeeny.
She conducted lessons at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China and has taught bassoon at Centenary College in Shreveport, La., as well as a studio in Mexico.
