How do I know which length of lesson to register for?
The length of lesson is solely dependant upon the amount of previous instruction one has had in the field of study. Also, a teacher can recommend the length of a lesson.

30-minute lesson: For small children as well as beginners on all instruments, piano, voice.

45-minute lesson: For older students who have had previous instruction in his/her area of concentration. Many students who wish to study for 45 minutes are at an intermediate level.

60-minute lesson: An hour lesson will be set aside for advanced students. These students have been studying his/her area of concentration for years. The teacher will recommend this length of lesson.

Will there be recitals and other performance opportunities?
Yes! We believe that it is important for each student to set high goals and have something to work toward.

Will there be a set curriculum?
Individual teachers will determine which method books work best for their students. Each teacher will be asked to submit to the school’s director a listing of the books he/she plans to teach from.

Will there be ensembles?
We are working steadily to form large group ensembles. As the program grows and matures, each student will have the opportunity to join one of the many group ensembles that will be introduced later in the semester.

Where will the lessons be held?
Lessons will be held on the 100 and 200 hallways in the main building of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Map »

What about security?
Security is a top priority at Prestonwood. Security cameras are in place around the area where lessons are held. Also, each student will be given a School of Fine Arts scan card to be used when he/she arrives for a lesson. This scan card is used for record keeping and security for each student.

Where do I enter the building for my lesson?
We ask that all students enter the building from the main entrance located in front of the Atrium fountain.

When is tuition due?
Tuition is due at the beginning of the month if you decide pay by monthly installments using a personal check or credit card.

Kindermusik classes must be paid in full with the application.

What form of payments does Prestonwood accept?
Prestonwood Baptist Church will accept cash, checks and all credit cards except Discover.

What is your attendance/withdrawal policy?
Sixteen lessons will be given over the course of the semester (8 for group classes). If a student wishes to discontinue his/her music instruction, a 30-day written notice will be required. The student will be financially responsible for the lessons that occur within the 30 days from the date notice is given, whether or not the student chooses to attend the lessons. A refund will be given for the remaining balance of the semester. The application fee is non-refundable.

What is your make-up lesson policy?
Private/Group Lessons:
Students must give notice to the teacher at least 24 hours in advance when missing a scheduled lesson. Make-up lessons are granted only for an excused absence in which the instructor is notified at least 24 hours prior to the lesson time. The student is responsible for notifying the instructor of an anticipated absence with the contact information provided by the instructor.

Excused absences include student illness, extreme emergency and death in the family.

Unexcused absences will not be refunded or made up by the teacher. They will consist of, but not be limited to, forgetting the lesson, un-notified absences and choosing to do another activity during the scheduled lesson time.

If the student is late, the teacher is under no obligation to extend the lesson beyond the normal ending time or reschedule the lost time. If the teacher is late, the teacher must either extend the ending time of the lesson or reschedule the lost time.

Excused absences, as defined above, will be made up. These will be scheduled and approved by the instructor. Lessons will not be made up if they are missed or denied due to late payments. The student is responsible for paying for all lessons, regardless of student or instructor attendance. Lessons not completed by the end of the semester due to instructor absence will be credited to the student.

If a lesson is cancelled or forfeited by the student for any reason, the instructor may then schedule another lesson in the absent time slot. The instructor is under no obligation to notify the parent or student who forfeits the lesson of the substitution. If the original student's schedule changes and they are able to attend the cancelled lesson, it is subject to the instructor's schedule.

Group classes consist of a fixed schedule for which the student pays in advance. No refunds will be given for student-initiated missed class days or for withdrawal. Instructor-initiated missed class days will be rescheduled, or, if that is not possible, the student will be credited the appropriate amount.

Kindermusik Classes:
There are no make-ups for missed classes. The only exception is in the case of a serious illness or event that causes your child to miss more than 3 classes in one semester. In this case, we will make a special concession to allow your child to have an opportunity to make up by attending another class time of the same level. In case of teacher illness, the class will be rescheduled.
