Private/Group Lesson Enrollment Policies

Semester Length

Each student will receive 16 lessons per semester. Our calendar is in coordination with the Plano Independent School District and Prestonwood Christian Academy school calendars.

Registration and Fees

Enrollment is always open for private lessons. There are enrollment deadlines for group classes, so please check the School of Fine Arts website for those dates. For group lessons, there must be a minimum of 10 participants signed up for the class to occur. If the class does not fill up, those signed up will be notified immediately regarding other options.

Tuition fees are paid directly to the School of Fine Arts. Please make checks payable to Prestonwood School of Fine Arts.

For private/group lessons, a non-refundable annual application fee of $50 is due at the time of enrollment.

Payment Policy

Students taking private/group lessons can choose from two payment options:

  1. Pay in full with the application.
  2. Pay in monthly installments using a credit card or check.

A valid credit card number is required at time of enrollment regardless of chosen payment method. Your credit card will not be charged at any time, unless tuition payment has not been received after our office makes numerous attempts to collect the needed funds.

Tuition rates for the Spring 2008 semester is as follows:

  • Private Lessons
    30 minutes – $35 per lesson - $560 total tuition ($35 x 16 lessons)
    45 minutes – $45 per lesson - $720 total tuition ($45 x 16 lessons)
    60 minutes – $55 per lesson - $880 total tuition ($55 x 16 lessons)

The School of Fine Arts reserves the right to charge the balance due to the credit card provided on the registration/enrollment application if payment is not received within two weeks of the due date. The School of Fine Arts reserves the right to cancel and/or deny lessons for payments not received.

Enrollment

Applications for enrollment are available online. Please submit the application, emergency information and credit card information online. Please fill out all forms entirely. Once the completed application, forms, registration fee and initial payment are received, the student(s) will be notified to confirm class/lesson time(s) and instructor(s).

Attendance

Sixteen lessons will be given over the course of the semester (8 for group classes). If a student wishes to discontinue his/her music instruction, a 30-day written notice will be required. The student will be financially responsible for the lessons that occur within the 30 days from the date notice is given, whether or not the student chooses to attend the lessons. A refund will be given for the remaining balance of the semester. The application fee is non-refundable.

Make-up Lessons

One make-up lesson will be granted per semester for an excused absence in which the instructor is notified at least 24 hours prior to lesson time.

Excused absences include student illness, extreme emergency and death in the family.

Unexcused absences will not be refunded or made up by the teacher. They will consist of, but not be limited to, forgetting the lesson, un-notified absences and choosing to do another activity during the scheduled lesson time.

If the student is late, the teacher is under no obligation to extend the lesson beyond the normal ending time or reschedule the lost time. If the teacher is late, the teacher must either extend the ending time of the lesson or reschedule the lost time.

One excused absence, as defined above, will be made up. These will be scheduled and approved by the instructor. Lessons will not be made up if they are missed or denied due to late payments. The student is responsible for paying for all lessons, regardless of student or instructor attendance. Lessons not completed by the end of the semester due to instructor absence will be credited to the student.

If a lesson is cancelled or forfeited by the student for any reason, the instructor may then schedule another lesson in the absent time slot. The instructor is under no obligation to notify the parent or student who forfeits the lesson of the substitution. If the original student’s schedule changes and they are able to attend the cancelled lesson, it is subject to the instructor’s schedule.

Group classes consist of a fixed schedule for which the student pays in advance. No refunds will be given for student-initiated missed class days or for withdrawal. Instructor-initiated missed class days will be rescheduled, or, if that is not possible, the student will be credited the appropriate amount.

Group Class Tuition and Attendance

These classes consist of a fixed schedule for which the student pays in advance. Payment is due in full at the first class unless prior arrangements have been made. Because of the nature of a group class environment, we will not be able to issue refunds or reimbursements for missed lessons (excused or unexcused), or for withdrawal. Accordingly, we will not be able to schedule make-up lessons for individuals for any reason (including sickness).

If the teacher is to be absent on any given class day, the class will be notified ahead of time. This class will then be made up at no additional cost to the student. If the school has to close due to weather or church-wide closure event, your class will be made up at no additional charge.

Studio Classes, Recitals & Performances

The Prestonwood School of Fine Arts is dedicated to seeing each student glorify the Lord with his/her talents. For this reason, we host an end-of-the-semester recital that serves as a testimony to each student’s hard work and diligence. We consider it vital that each student participate in the recital, therefore, it is a requirement as part of a student’s overall musical experience. It is a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to witness what students have learned, and it is an incredibly enriching time for the students.Students should come prepared to perform a piece assigned by their instructor, usually from memory.Because the recital date is always posted at the beginning of the semester, it allows plenty of time for families to plan for the event. There is no excused absence, and failure to participate will result in a fee of $35 per student. Please plan for this event and take advantage of this great opportunity for your child and your family. In addition to recitals, students are required to participate in approximately three Studio Classes each semester. The additional opportunities to perform in Studio Classes will serve as a less threatening performance opportunity as well as give other students in the instructor’s studio an opportunity to learn from each other. These classes provide an opportunity for students to improve their sense of constructive communication and encouragement. Students are also required to attend at least one faculty performance per semester to experience a master in their field of study, which will encourage students to continue striving for excellence.

School Closings

Prestonwood School of Fine Arts follows the inclement weather policy of Plano ISD. Please listen to local radio and TV broadcasts for information concerning closings. If the church building remains open and available on a day when lessons have been cancelled, special arrangements may be made on an individual basis between instructor and student to have a lesson. When inclement weather develops in the afternoon, the School of Fine Arts reserves the right to cancel lessons and classes for the remainder of the day. Please call the School of Fine Arts office for cancellation notices or to determine whether a decision to close the church building was made during the day.

Expectations of Student Practice

Regular practice is essential for proper musical/artistic learning. It is recommended that a student practice daily the same amount as the lesson time. For example, if a student is taking a 30-minute lesson, he/she should practice 30 minutes per day. Please discuss the requirements for practicing with your instructor.

Grievance Procedures

Please feel free to discuss with your instructor any difficulties that you/your student might be experiencing with the lessons. If a problem cannot be resolved with the instructor, or feel that an instructor is not meeting the needs of the students, please contact the School of Fine Arts office immediately. If possible, put your concerns in writing.

Progress Reports & Conferences

Instructors will provide adult students and the parents of students under the age of 18 with written goals at the beginning of the semester and progress reports at the end of every semester. Please contact the instructor if you need to arrange a conference. Instructors reserve the right to adjust the goals for the student during the course for the semester.
