Our History

Past, Present and Future
Prestonwood Baptist Church began on Feb. 6, 1977, as a mission of Northway Baptist Church and a dream of the Dallas Baptist Association—which saw the tremendous need for a vibrant church in North Dallas. Led by Pastor Bill Weber, the young church's beginnings were modest, with services held at a community center for the first two years. In 1979, Prestonwood moved to its new home at Arapaho and Hillcrest in North Dallas, which more and more people would come to call their church home.
Thirty years later, home is now in Plano and that nucleus of steadfast believers has grown into a community of faith with more than 27,000 members. And, while Prestonwood has seen numerous defining moments in its history, none has carried greater significance than when Dr. Jack Graham accepted the call as pastor in 1989. Under his bold and visionary leadership, Prestonwood relocated to this location in Plano. God's hand continues to be on this church three decades later as we've witnessed changed lives, strengthened families and a greater reach in the community, nation and the world with the love of Christ.
In March of 2006, after months of prayer with church leaders, Pastor Graham shared with the congregation a vision that included plans for a second location—Prestonwood North. The vision for "One Church, Two Locations" grew out of a spirit-led determination to keep moving forward to the glory of God to reach the burgeoning U.S. Highway 380 Corridor. In its short history, Prestonwood North already has been woven into the fabric of the community throughout that region.
Our Prestonwood North family began meeting in home groups for a few months in 2006 before we moved to Prosper High School, where a gym was transformed into a place of worship each Sunday. We celebrated many milestones while awaiting the completion of our new facility. And on Oct. 12, 2008, we celebrated the dedication of Prestonwood North, a 76,795-square-foot building on 127 acres on Prosper Trail, just east of the Dallas North Tollway.
Go Beyond
Our vision reaches deeper and farther than we could have imagined because God has provided this call to go Beyond All Limits to share the story of His saving grace. In any given week, Prestonwood members are ministering in surrounding neighborhoods; they're in Boston, New Orleans and San Diego; they're in Romania, the Amazon and East Asia. And through PowerPoint Ministries, more than 500,000 people are reached each week with the life-transforming truth of God's Word via television, radio and the Internet.
Prestonwood is committed to engaging its people, blessings and resources to fulfill the Great Commission in this generation—ever striving to be “one church to the glory of God.”
