“Develop Them in Christian Living”

Discipleship at Prestonwood

Our mission statement includes a clear mandate to disciple: “to glorify God by introducing Jesus Christ as Lord to as many people as possible and to develop them in Christian living ...”

Whether it’s the more than 3,000 youngsters in the Children’s Ministry or the adults in the  “65 and better” Bible Fellowships, Prestonwood provides teaching and discipleship to reach people where they are.

“As a church, we don’t want to be a mile wide and an inch deep,” said Pastor Jack Graham. “We want our people to know Christ and then to make Him known.”

Recently, as is tradition at Prestonwood, more than 160 first graders received a copy of the Bible, as we prayed that they will learn the basics of the Christian faith while storing God’s Word in their hearts. And besides the teaching in class, the Children’s Ministry provides quarterly devotionals and now new table calendars for parents to use along with their kids that coincide with the daily devotional to deepen their faith as a family.

Our students, junior high and high school, meet on weekends in table groups with adult leaders who disciple and mentor them, and families do quarterly devotionals together as well.

And besides the more than 100 Adult Bible Fellowships available, we provide discipleship through the Men’s (see story on this page) and Women’s Ministries.

One woman, Laura Phillips recently said the Women’s Ministry Bible study she is involved in has greatly impacted her life. “I am back to reading and praying in the mornings,” she said. “What a wonderful way to start my day.... I want to start memorizing verses again.”

On Wednesday nights, Life & Leadership Institute offers an array of classes that help members explore specific topics such as apologetics, spiritual gifts, Christian leadership, and more. Dusty and Pat Rhodes said they’ve attended a class that teaches a Christian worldview.

“It makes you think about ‘the truth’ as it relates to God, man, evil, and the many philosophies that are present in the world today,” Pat said. “Even though we have been Christians for a long time, we believe now more than ever, we need to be able to defend our faith in a world where absolute truth seems to be absent.”

In addition, about 500 people attend Wednesday Night Bible Study in The Chapel, as Pastor Graham and other ministers teach, The Journey, a book-by-book study of the Bible.

“I come every Wednesday night ready to be blessed by the precious Word of God,” said Carolyn Strange. “I come prepared to write in my journal as fast as I can and hear from the best ministers on earth as they present the overview of each book in the Bible.”
