Upgrading Technology to Reach the Masses
Pastor Jack Graham likes to joke that the phenomenal
growth of the PowerPoint ministry is a testimony to the tenacious hold
of a handful of Band-Aids and the occasional bargain from an online auction.
“PowerPoint is expanding and our ministry around the world is growing,”
Pastor Graham told the congregation a few weeks back. “And we’re
touching America with the Gospel, and we’re grateful for that.
“When we came here, we brought with us all our old television equipment
from Hillcrest and Arapaho. We put some Band-Aids on it and
bought a few new cameras. And we did buy a new switcher, whatever that
is. … We bought it off eBay.”
But there’s more than a bit of truth in that. Much of the gear that brings
Pastor Graham up-close and personal to the farthest corners of Prestonwood’s
sanctuary or offers a peek at those otherwise tiny, tiny figures in the choir
indeed made the trip to Plano. Those same cameras and microphones and
recorders carry the Prestonwood message to people around the world.
And, quite frankly, said Scott Seal, Director of PowerPoint Ministries,
“we are in dire need of equipment.”
But purchasing the latest technology won’t only provide technical
improvements to PowerPoint broadcasts, he said. It will enhance the experience
we have sitting in the pews, as well as allow us to take that experience
to multiple locations.
Even with a collection of equipment considerably past its prime,
PowerPoint Ministries has grown tremendously in the last two years. But as
Jesus told His disciples, the fields are ripe and ready for harvest, and PowerPoint
is a key part of the church’s outreach, carrying biblical teaching
across America and around the world.
“In essence, we are taking our pulpit teaching to the masses,” Scott
said. “PowerPoint is the vehicle, but the worship and the teaching are
the experience.”
