Experiencing a “Faith Workout” Through Service & Outreach
Jarrett Stephens best describes what is taking place with the
Young Singles Ministry as a grass roots movement.
“Our folks love ministering to their own age group,”
said Jarrett, Minister to Young Singles and University
Students. “Through serving them and having
conversations with them, it helps to lower their guard.”
Then these young adults begin attending small groups
and, later, “walk into church and hear the preaching of
Pastor Graham,” Jarrett said.
Small groups began meeting last spring south of I-635
to allow those with long commutes to Prestonwood a
chance to experience fellowship and growth with the
body of Christ in the middle of the week. Hundreds
also meet once a month at North Dallas High School
for South of 635 Area Gathering, a time of prayer,
worship and teaching from God’s Word.
“The South of 635 groups offer a way to get plugged
in and reach new people in our own neighborhoods,”
said Sarah Henze.
The Young Singles aren’t just focused on a particular
area, however. Their servant evangelism projects
include serving residents in the Bonton community
in South Dallas to washing cars at Austin Ranch
Apartments west of Plano.
“What is so incredible,” Jarrett said, “is that our people
are taking ownership; it’s become innate in them to
serve.”
What many in the Young Singles Ministry have found
is that they’re “working out” their faith, and lives are
being changed.
“By giving us the opportunity to step into leadership
roles, go on mission trips, wrestle with the Word of
God through Bible studies and classes, and serve the
local community,” said Bryan Gibbs, “we are able to
exercise our faith.”
