Fed for the First Time

When Krista Dockery accepted Christ two years ago, she didn't know what to expect. But she surely didn't anticipate "nothingness."
She and her husband, Dan, were led to Christ by one of her coworkers. But that was it. There was no follow-up, no explanations.
"I wasn't told what came next," she said. "I was in limbo. 'I'm a Christian. OK.' Then I went right back to my sinful ways just out of pure ignorance."
When Dan, a staff sergeant with the Marines, readied to leave for a tour in Iraq, Krista started thinking seriously about finding a home church. At a flag football practice for son, Keegan, she met a woman who told her about Prestonwood. Living in North Frisco, Krista decided she, Keegan and daughter, Karsen, needed a church closer to home. She received a postcard from Prestonwood North, and was intrigued, and then someone else told her about a Bible Fellowship class. After attending both class and service, Krista recalls receiving calls from various members of the Prestonwood North family.
Just four weeks later—when she delivered their third child, Rileigh—she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love.
"People came to the hospital, they brought meals to the house, and called," Krista said. "Nobody really knew me but they treated me like family."
Krista, who'd never been plugged in at a church before, felt drawn to become a member of Prestonwood North.
"I'd been to a lot of churches and had known a lot of people who said they were Christians, but it didn't seem right so I was pretty resistant," she said. "I felt scared and nervous to make a commitment to join a church—until now. At Prestonwood North, I wanted to join and be entrenched."
From the beginning, several women took her under their wings. When she walked forward during a service to join, she said she was touched that Pam Borinstein went with her. And when she drove to Plano for baptism in December, Misty Spurlock rode with her.
"I never would have imagined this," Krista said. "It just quickly felt like home and like family. I'm so overcome with emotion, and so proud to be a part of it that I'm talking about it all over the place to whoever will listen.
"I love going to service and Bible studies; I'm reading the Bible, and I feel like I'm being fed for the first time in my life. I have no idea what's in store...but I'm excited."
