"I was working in the oil fields and loving my job, but hating my situation. I was going to God every night and asking what His plan was for me. One morning, I went to work and fell 40 feet, breaking my back. When I came to in the ICU, God gave me an answer…. I came out of that with a feeling of “this is where I’m supposed to be” and “this is what I’m supposed to do”—go out and witness for Him. It gives me a chance to present the Word of God to people in the same situation as I’m in. I wanted to be baptized because I wanted to have the whole effect of giving myself completely to Jesus. [Since I am in a wheelchair,] most of the challenges of being baptized were how to get me physically into the baptismal. Through the grace of a group of men from my Bible study, we found a way to get me baptized. Having the gentlemen from my class there to support and carry me—guys that have taken me in as their brother—was just a feeling I can’t describe.... You can find an excuse for anything. Sure, I’ve got a readily available excuse, but it’s one that I choose not to use. So, as long as I have God in my heart and I feel that it’s something God wants me to do, I can do it."
